Co-sponsored with the University Library Gallery
California State University, Sacramento
In 2007, CCAE developed a new and exciting partnership with the University Library Gallery on the campus of California State University, Sacramento.
In 2007, CCAE also expanded its programming to include a new Institute – one designed for the needs of teachers who are already committed to the CCAE approach and who have participated in previous Institute programs. The program extends beyond the University setting to encompass the larger landscape of art in public places.
In both programs, participants work in a dynamic and engaging art setting, meet teachers of all backgrounds and experiences, and receive all the resources needed to transfer their learning experiences into their classrooms.
The Institutes take place in the Library Gallery while participants study exemplary works from the University’s collections as well as site-specific works from the Sacramento region’s renowned art in public places programs. These artworks are selected for their ability to engage students of all ages in meaningful looking, discussing, writing, critical thinking and art making. Participants also meet Sacramento-based artists of national stature in presentations designed for their unique interests and needs.
We let past participants tell you why you should attend the CCAE Institutes:
From the Institute you get a clear understanding of why the visual arts are so important, and how relevant art is to the rest of the curriculum. This is one of the most valuable classes I’ve taken. I learned so much about art principles, art history and how to look at art.
For me the Institute was life changing. Having hardly done any art or production of visual art since 6th grade, I didn’t know what I was missing. A whole new world opened up to me. Thank you for helping me experience a more meaningful world with new eyes. I will try to help my students do the same.
Summer Art Institute #1
Standards Based Instruction From Works of Art (30 hours instruction)
CCAE’s successful format will continue as an entry level program – a fun and intensive one-week program grounded in the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards and Language Arts Standards, with authentic connections to other content areas as appropriate. Participants will put themselves in the place of their students – learning by doing – and develop the confidence and enthusiasm to incorporate art into their teaching regardless of grade level or content area! Emphasis is on sound strategies and methods that transfer across the curriculum. End the week with CCAE’s popular Incredible Edible Art Buffet and invaluable Classroom Applications activities.
Fees for the CCAE Summer Art Institute #1 (5- Day Entry Program)
$275 per person or
$250 per person if attending as a team of three or more teachers from the same school

More Standards Based Instruction From Works of Art (20 hours instruction)

Then expand your repertoire with a public art tour led by the artist-consultant behind some of the most significant commissioned artwork in the Sacramento region! Participants will experience each of the focus works in the context of a standards-based, art-centered unit and then end the program by developing their own lesson plan package.
